We ran a little experiment and had a girl from the team create a fresh Tinder profile. 

That account was set to swipe in several locations across the US.

After swiping on 500 men, do you know what’s the percentage of guys who actually bother to use a proper camera to take their pictures?

In other words, if you take at least 2 high-quality photos for the purpose of your online dating profile, you are already in the top 6% of all guys on Tinder.

A messy bathroom selfie.

The kind of picture where you notice that the toilet seat was left up.

Any detail that is in your picture will take the attention away from you if it’s too distracting, and that’s not good.

Make sure your background is neat and non-distracting.

Whatever is behind you in the picture, it should not be distracting.

To further investigate this point, we selected 9 photos to have a little photofeeler.com experiment and help us figure out how to get more matches on Tinder.

Here is the result:

You can see that overall pictures with a messy background received worse feedback, while pictures with a cleaner background were rated higher. 

The highest attractiveness score was given to those with a nice blur effect.

There are more factors in play, such as smiling, which often makes one appear more reliable but less confident. 

But my main advice on how to get more matches on Tinder that I’d give to the first 3 guys is to … tidy their room.

It’s the main takeaway here.

3 – Slightly Edited Pictures

But hey, blurring a background is not easy. 

If you have photography skills, you can pull off a shot like that naturally.

But if you don’t, there are tons of alternatives that let you blur the background and edit your pictures in different ways to make them look amazing.

So amazing that you never ask me again how to get more matches on Tinder.

As for blurring, I personally like that one app called “Blur Background DSLR”.

As for editing, I go with the Snapseed app.

If you’re wondering how to get more matches on Tinder through editing your pics, those 2 free apps will be more than enough.

And don’t worry, I’m not talking about photoshopping yourself behind a DJ booth or adding fake muscles to your body. 

We want to mainly edit the lighting to make your pictures look cleaner and visually more interesting (aka colour grading).

My go-to edits are usually:

Increasing the warmth slightly

Increasing the brightness slightly 

Maybe slightly playing with the saturation level

Science says that eye contact is one of the best ways to “get a feel” for someone.

Now, I don’t recommend pictures where you stare straight at the camera in every case. 

Sometimes, staring at the camera can make the shot too intense. 

Looking away slightly while still showing the white of your eyes works as well.

In both cases, not hiding behind sunglasses or weird camera angles is what you want to do to build trust.

In fact, in a recent Hinge study, it was found that male profiles with the main picture looking straight at the camera would be 102% more likely to receive alike.

While profiles with the main picture wearing sunglasses would be 41% less likely to be swiped right on.

2 – Show Your Body Clearly

Girls will feel way more comfortable with the idea of going out with you if they have a clear mental image of what to expect. 

(And at least she won’t wonder who you are when looking for you at the point of rendezvous.) 

She needs to know whether you’re thin, small, fat, chubby, muscly, slim, average and whether or not you’ve got 2 legs and 2 arms.

In fact, the study mentioned above indicates that guys with this kind of shot get swiped right on… over 90% less.

Honestly, this picture could be good.

BUT.

They are holding hands, and it is easy to interpret this as a more-than-friends relationship.

Instead, use a picture of yourself with other people in a non-romantic setting.
